The End of Summer Adventure Camp was such a blast! Our summer camp is designed as a typical day camp experience for children and teens with special needs, while providing necessary support and therapeutic activities to keep participants safe and engaged. For our participants, this typical camp experience is one that is hard to find anywhere else, so we are so thankful for all the staff, therapists, and volunteers who made this happen!
This year at camp, every day was a different location and theme: Day 1: Camp Classics at MMSC Day School, Day 2: Sports Day at Magnuson Park, Day 3: Animal Day at Woodland Park Zoo, Day 4: Rainbow Day at Magnuson Park.
Day 1: Camp Classics
We kicked off the first day of camp at MMSC Day School. After getting to know each other with some ice breaker activities, we started by tie-dying our camp t-shirts. For our STEM project we made some delicious homemade ice cream in a bag. After ice cream we played with cute and fluffy bunnies from 24 Carrot Parties and jammed out to music with Emma from Life On Music Therapy.
Day 2: Sports Day
The next day of camp was sports themed and took place at Magnuson Park. This day was so special because we had great weather and we got to go biking with our buddies with Outdoors for All. They had so many cool adaptive bicycles for us to try and all of our participants loved this new experience. We also played parachute games, decorated some visors, and played soccer.
Day 3: Animal Day
This was another great day of camp for us. We had a roaring time checking out all the animals at the Woodland Park Zoo. While we walked around, we played animal bingo, checked out the zoomazium, and talked about each of our favorite animals. Our favorites were a tie between the penguins and the giraffes.
Day 4: Rainbow Day
On our last day of camp we went back to Magnuson Park for a day full of rainbow themed activities. We started out the day with a nature color scavenger hunt. Then for our STEM project, we made rainbow bubble snakes which were a big hit with our participants. We then ended the day by braiding challah bread and playing on the playground. We had such an incredible time at camp and we can’t wait to see everyone again at our first Sunday Circle of the program year on September 18th!
