Andrew helps out with nearly every program we have! He always takes initiative by signing up for opportunities. As a leadership board member, he contributes great ideas for new programs and methods of engagement.

What school do you go to and what grade are you in?

I go to Mercer Island High School, and I'm a Sophomore.

What other extracurricular activities do you participate in?

I am involved with our school's radio station, 889 The Bridge. I am the Digital Media Director for 889 and a podcast host. This doesn't count as an extracurricular but takes up a lot of my time; this year, I am a class officer, so I have been working with my school's administrators on working out plans to combat COVID and strategies for hybrid learning.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to hang out with my friends and play frisbee. I also love to watch movies and hike on the weekends. Anytime I have time to hang out with friends, I will take it!

How long have you been with FC?

This is my second year in the Friendship Circle. It is my first year on the FC leadership board.

How has FC helped you make it through the isolation of Covid?

The Friendship Circle was swift to switch to online programming before the summer break, which was awesome to continue volunteering before the school year. The friendship circle has opened up so many new programs and activities for buddies and volunteers during this school year. With all of their activities, you don't feel as isolated as you would without them. I know that anytime we have a program, it's always the best part of the day. The increase of programming at the Friendship Circle has made isolation so much better for me.

How has FC played a role in your life during the pandemic?

The Friendship Circle has played a massive role in my life during the pandemic. It has kept me engaged and more involved than ever. With programs, almost every day, I never have to wait more than a day or two to be volunteering.

In what way does FC help you connect with your community?

The Friendship Circle is a big part of my community. It also helps me connect to my community. Because most of the programs are done on Mercer Island, I have become lifelong friends with many buddies that I see every day in my school. The Friendship Circle Annual Walk is also on Mercer Island, where we as a community fundraise and raise awareness. Without the Friendship Circle, I wouldn't be as involved in the community if I never signed up for FC.

What is your favorite program? (Sunday Circle, Play Dates, [email protected], etc)

This question is a tough one, so I'll give two answers. Sunday Circles is one of my favorites because of the fantastic activities we get to do. If it's painting, dancing, or reading a book, it's always so much fun. I love seeing everyone in a place if that's pre-COVID or during Zoom. It's nice seeing so many amazing volunteers and buddies coming together to play and interact. My other favorite program is Friends at Home because of the friendship I get to grow with my buddy Josh. Going over to his house and hanging out is a big highlight of my week.

If you could use one word to describe FC, what would it be?
