The History

Friendship Circle was founded in 2004, serving just 8 participants with special needs. One of our beloved participants at that time was Michael Rabin, who had the uncanny ability to light up any room he walked into. Michael taught us that living a life of excellence includes being kind and showing others true friendship and compassion.

The untimely and sudden passing of our dear friend and pure holy soul Michael Rabin, has left his beloved family, friends, and hundreds of individuals impacted by his daily genuine kindness, missing him dearly. Friendship Circle is proud and honored to establish The Michael Rabin Excellence in Achievement Scholarship Award as a living legacy to pay tribute to the incredible impact Michael had on so many that he encountered through the years he was granted.

This prestigious scholarship award is dedicated to the many incredibly selfless Friendship Circle volunteers who help make people like Michaels’ lives more rich and who receive much more in return than they ever could have imagined.


The Scholarship Award

Each year, those Friendship Circle volunteers that reach the level of pure excellence, will receive the prestigious Excellence in Achievement  Scholarship Award. Our teen volunteers are the success and lifeblood of what we do – our work would not be possible without them. Over 200 teens collectively volunteer thousands of hours of their time each year with our programs, supporting and building lifelong friendships with our beloved families, children, teens, and young adults with special needs. 

The volunteers who receive the Michael Rabin Excellence in Achievement Scholarship Award are those who have shown the qualities of being the ultimate Teen Hero.

The recipients of this award will demonstrate outstanding excellence in the following areas:

  • Leadership in the FC community
  • Dedication to their buddy with special needs and to their volunteer work at FC
  • Community engagement
  • Being an exemplary ambassador of kindness

The recipients will be announced at the end of each program year.
